CHANGE SSF CARE-A-VAN for Students: SSFUSD is Not Ready to Open

The purpose of this car caravan is to bring attention to the serious danger of the South San Francisco Unified School District reopening its schools too early. The caravan will be followed by a short press conference at the SSFUSD District Office where any questions can be answered. CHANGE SSF stands in solidarity with the South San Francisco Teachers Association in ensuring that the wellbeing of teachers, students, and their families are given the utmost priority on deciding fall plans. We hope that the school board will prioritize the needs of its most vulnerable during this time and put its resources into continuing supporting our students from a distance.

SSFUSD and all other school districts in San Mateo County closed their schools on March 16th in accordance with SMC Health Officer Scott Morrow’s orders. Reported Coronavirus cases in the county were at less than 100. Today there are close to 4,000 cases and 112 deaths, with anywhere between 40 and over 100 new cases every day. The California state government halted its reopening plans after a state-wide spike in new coronavirus cases. As of today, the rate of new cases in San Mateo County has been rising.
