ACTION ITEM: This THURSDAY, 7/15 at 7 PM the SSFUS ACTION ITEM: This THURSDAY, 7/15 at 7 PM the SSFUSD school board will be voting to SUSPEND the SLO program until they have a policy in place to protect students. That means that when students go back to school in August, there will be NO COPS ON CAMPUS. This is a crucial meeting to call and write in to support student activism and discontinue the school to prison pipeline at SSFUSD. Two chapters of the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) as well as FLY (Fresh Lifelines for Youth) have written letters in support of ending the SLO program to protect students’ rights. You can read them, and get details on how to participate in public comment, at tinyurl.com/ACLUxENDSLO. We want to thank @aclu_norcal @aclu_norpen @flyprograms_smc as well as all the community members who have supported the students in their fight to get cops off campus!

Repost from @curyj510 • On this day in history: Repost from @curyj510 • On this day in history: June 19, 1865 the last enslaved persons were informed of their “legal” freedom from chattel slavery after hundreds of years of resistance. Even though this was 2.5 years after the Emancipation Proclamation and Texas was still under racist Confederate control, we take the time today to acknowledge the transition out of chattel slavery as we knew it. But slavery hasn’t been abolished- it’s transformed into the mass incarceration of Black & Brown people. So while today we can celebrate how far we’ve come, we can’t forget that many of our siblings are still behind bars and we are still on a nation built on stolen land. We are taking today to honor out ancestors who endured chattel slavery for generations and still created beautiful music, food, culture, and histories. They birthed us and gave us life. We thank them and continue their work by fighting for abolition. #DreamBeyondBars #BlackAndBrownUnity #Juneteenth #EthnicStudies

Through a public records request, we received list Through a public records request, we received lists of police case reports (“incidences”) for every SSFUSD school since 2005. After months of sorting, we were able to determine three main things: the total number of incidences for each school, the most cited reasons cops were at a school, and which cops were showing up to schools the most. The Student Liasion officer (SLO) program is responsible for a significant amount of police presence in SSFUSD, over 200 hrs/school year. The school board and city council favor keeping the program, but we have to show them otherwise. @ssfhs4change and @shastabsu planned a march for this Thursday, 5pm starting from Baden high school and ending at the district office. If you are able to, come out to protect and show solidarity with our students or donate to our venmo @ changessf to help cover protest costs!
